Role of Private Sector in Health Supply Chains
A team from Dalberg and the MIT/Zaragoza Logistics Centre was engaged by the Rockefeller Foundation on a study to set a baseline understanding of health supply chains and characterization of current private sector role in Least Developed Countries. The study was mainly informed by an in-depth case study of health supply chain and its private sector interventions in 2 countries (Zambia and Ghana), as well as a comprehensive scan (across Africa, Asia and Latin America) of innovative and high potential initiatives to improve health supply chain performance through engaging the private sector. The key insights from this project were presented at a Technical Partners meeting organized by the Rockefeller foundation and addressed themes such as:
- understanding the role of the private sector in health supply chains
- analyzing how current investment in private sector initiatives is shifting the role of the private sector
- framing how to think about potential investment in private sector initiatives
- providing practical recommendations for different actors (national policymakers, private investors and donors)
